Rare antique ‘Woman in Coffin’ themed fairground shooting game target.
C. 1930.
Probably English or French.
An early 20th century hand-made fairground shooting gallery target in the form of a coffin. The steel backplate with red circular target over double door coffin revealing a spring loaded painted wooden female figure. Press the red target and the female figure springs up through the coffin doors.
Very unusual and characterful vintage fairground / funfair styled piece.
The gothic themed coffin is very detailed, realistic and solidly made. Whilst the female figure is primitively carved and painted, in a slightly vintage showgirl style.
Some small internal elements may be missing, but the sprung target still works smoothly to release the figure through the coffin doors.
Signs of age and wear to the outside of the coffin. Paint loss and wear to the carved figure appropriate to age.
Impressive sculptural piece as a gothic cabinet of curiosities display or vintage circus funfair decorative object.
